Yes, I’m sure if you’re on this blog you’ve already heard of Canada’s boy wonder The Weeknd. At just 20 years old Abel Tesfaye has seemingly come out of nowhere with his House of Balloons project and the internets are just all a buzz. He’s a future superstar so why not get familiar before the rest of the world? The video up top is one of his first live performances at the University of Toronto’s Black Student Association talent show.
ERYKAH BADU IN STUDIO from Creative Control on Vimeo.
It’s always a pleasure to hear/see Erykah. Her voice takes me back to simpler times and this video is quite adorable. Giving us glimpses of Jay Electronica and her 2 year old daughter Mars Merkaba (hold your judgments) this track can be found on her 2010 album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh).
Skotch Davis – Bring the Roses from Phil Mao on Vimeo.
Womp, I’m sad this is only over a minute long. The full version features my favorite Dom Kennedy and this track is off Skotch’s recently released project SkotchTape. We’ve been fans of Skotch for quite some time now, he won me completely over during CMJ at Santos, had me rocking with the crowd almost about to take my shoe off. Here’s what Phil Mao the director had to say about the visuals ” A while back I got a chance to shoot this music video but we never got a chance to finish it due to time constraints and differing schedules. Rather than just let the footage go to waste, I decided to put together the visuals to the first verse of the record with what I had”
Lil B – Angels Prayer
I was at a discussion yesterday which featured Phonte and 9th Wonder where Lil B was brought up. Both Phonte and 9th agreed that this young based god is really fooling all of those who are hating on him. Yes, at times he makes no sense, yes at times people offer their first born children to him but if you really listen to some of his lyrics this man’s a VERY smart man. Agree with me if you want but..I’m not that one hashtagging #thankyoubasedgod in my tweets. This track is off his “Illusions Of Grandeur,” mixtape that was recently released.
Casey Veggies, Freddie Gibbs, Dom Kennedy and of course Tyler, The Creator all get an infinite amount of play on my iPod. West Coast is just really, REALLY doing the damn thing right now. I blame it on all the infinite sunshine and great weather they have over there. On the East coast we’ve been dealing with snowstorms and Gotham city like atmosphere. Anyways, take a look up top to learn more about these amazing MCs.

I seen a baby cry then seconds later she laughed, the beauty of life, the pain never lasts
