“Emily Warren & The Betters” – EP

My latest obsession: Emily Warren & The Betters. My best friend randomly met her at a bar a couple of weeks ago and brought her music to my attention and..I fell in love just by watching her on youtube. Her voice and band are amazing live I couldn’t wait to hear how she sounded when recorded and..if you can imagine love times ten that’s what I felt. They’re an unsigned group whose sound is geared towards the Electro / Pop / Reggae genre and hail from New York City! Her voice reminds me of a Sara Bareilles/less insane Lily Allen with a splice of Adele. Emily and her band will be performing at The Gramercy Theater on January 29th at 8pm and you can head over to their myspace for some more information! I definitely suggest checking her out, they’re fun, quirky, super talented and come highly recommended by me. I’ve posted two of my favorite songs but head over to their bandcamp page to download the entire project.

DJ Semtex Interviews Drake

Thanks to Roy over at Heather’s spot we now have audio of Drizzard Drake talking to one of my favorite overseas DJ, DJ Semtex! My what a difference this interview is compared to Tim Westwood’s. Less uncomfortable and more laid back, Aubrey talks to Semtex about his growth as an artist, previous bad experiences touring, how he felt Thank Me Later was rushed, being a fan of Rick Ross & More. I see that fro is just growing bigger and bigger, god it’s so ugly.

Carlos St. John – In Association (Mixtape)

Eesh I know I know, I’m as late as can be with this mixtape. Those of you who read this blog (my mom, matt and my boyfriend) know exactly how I feel about Carlos St. John. He’s somewhat of a refreshing sound in a world surrounded by #swag. Carlos approaches his music as how anyone would approach something they really love. With thought, dedication, professionalism .. mixed all those together with his passion and drive and you have a project entitled, In Association. My favorite track is Hands which P & P (who presented the mixtape) has provided a stream of down below and you can catch the track list after the jump, do yourself a favor and invest some time in something worth downloading.

3 Mill featuring Wale & Apollo The Great – I Don’t Know

You know what I love about Wale? He can really shift his style of rapping to any type of sound. He mastered spoken word, he does the damn thing on this rock inspired track as well as adapts to a more Southern sound. Mr. Folarin will always be an under-appreciated (and most times, made fun of) talent. It’s okay Whale, I’ll let you be great! The song is taken from 3 Mill Production’s upcoming self titled album which is set to drop sometime in April. Produced by Roc On.

Adele vs. Jay-Z vs. Biggie – Rolling In The Deep (Voodoo Farm Remix)

Randomly came across this when searching Adele on Soundcloud and..I’ve been rocking with it for the past 30 minutes in my office. Why am I such a dubstep whore…? Yo no se but that shiz makes me happy. Voodoo Farm remixes Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” with all original music and Brooklyn’s finest emcees gracing the track.VOODOO FARM is an electronic music project created in 2009 by DJ/producer/filmmaker Liam Dirlam. The NYC group is based on collaborative efforts from Dirlam’s friends across the United States. The bulk of the production on Voodoo Farm’s next album (May 2011) will feature Liam Dirlam and Robert E. Corrigan Jr. (Muscle Car Chronicles) along with guest appearances from several talented artists

N-Dex & Rapid Ric – Ultra O.D.

Earlier this month the homie Ivan sent this gem to my inbox. In the last line of the email he urged to listen to track number 1 off Ultra O.D. (which you can find below) and he almost guaranteed that I would be swayed to listen to the entire project. AND he was right.  The street album is called Ultra OD by N-Dex and is presented by veteran DJ Rapid Ric. With production from N-Dex himself, Billionaire Boy Scout (French Montana, Waka Flocka Flame) and J-Mal of Loudnoyz (B.o.B, Chamillionaire, Chalie Boy, etc). N-Dex hails from Texas but by no means should be confined to just having a Southern sound. He has mass appeal and touches on a number of relatable topics that I’m sure many of you can appreciate. He’s clever and witty and gives thought to the belief that being an artist takes more than just a catchy chorus or instructional dance moves that make no damn sense. I strongly advise checking him out. If you’re hesistant to download you can stream his project at  N-Dex’s bandcamp and can thank me or Ivan later oh .. and if you feel like giving the man himself some of your thoughts he can be found on twitter here!

Best Coast – When You Wake Up

Wavves and Best Coast have joined forces for a split 7″ which contains two previously unreleased tracks. Below you can listen to the Best-contribution of the project. Titled “When You Wake Up”, the playful tune deals with frontwoman Bethany’s personal necessities in a relationship before noontime. You can grab your own copy of the EP Summer Is Forever on iTunes - HypeTrak  I like the vibe of this group, Bethany’s voice reminds me of Mary Weiss of The Shangri-Las and..the Shangri-Las are my favorite.

DJ Khaled Ft. Rick Ross, Plies, T-Pain & Lil’ Wayne – “Welcome To My Hood”

Insert blank stare here. Every got damn DJ Khaled song sounds the same and although I always LOVE to hear Rick Ross as well as Wayne, I’m pretty much over T-Pain and I don’t even understand how Plies is relevant in the world anymore. Regardless, this track will get endless amount of radio play just because..

Consequence – Tell Ya Boss 2 Holla At Me

I don’t know if I’ve just been more open to listening to Consequence or I just really never payed much attention to him but..these last couple of tracks that Cons has dropped for Movies on Demand 2 has really peaked my interest. The track which was produced by Lee Bannon pulls from a Rick Ross sample which..can never steer you in the wrong direction. Bawse! MOD2 does not have a release date but..rock with this in the meantime.
