Carlitta Durand – Monster
Gad, I adore Carlitta’s voice. It’s a perfect blend of that beautiful old soul era mixed with present day R&B. For someone who is obsessed with both, Carlitta’s the perfect answer to my iPod. Of course we’re being blessed with tons of love inspired songs today..but she tops the bunch with this amazing melody. Although it’s an oldie from 2008, it’s still powerful nonetheless.

when I first heard of Kendrick Lamar he went by the name of K. Dot and honestly I really didn’t like the raspy quality to his voice. That was about it though, his content, lyrics, choice of beats; he all around artistry is pretty damn amazing. What he raps about is shit a little Indian girl from Queens like me can relate to as well as the thugs from Compton can rock with. Kendrick’s music is universal and he’s WELL on his way to blowing up. I love this kid. “He talks about the difference between East Coast And West Coast music, growing up in Compton, how he was discovered, rapping at 13 years old, being inspired by Tupac, working closely with Dr. Dre, his ultimate goal, being on the “Detox” album & much more”
Awhile I go a posted a track of Le Fever’s and with one listen absolutely fell in love with this band. Their sound is so young, fresh, happy and new. A couple of days ago this email announcing the release of their EP fell into my inbox and I couldn’t wait to share it with you guys. I’ve been playing all 3 songs on repeat all day, I’m sure you’ll enjoy what you hear. I know I can’t get enough. “Recorded during the warmest nights of summer, greyest hours of autumn and darkest days of winter in the infamous studio “Psykbunkern” in Stockholm. We greeted the new year with the first single This Is The Last Time, and it was received better and with finer words than we ever dared to hope for. So it’s with curiosity and pride in our bodies that we now give you the continuation of our story and the definitive opus that we have been working on since our debut a year ago. Beginners Luck is the result of Le Fevers year as debutants, with the successes that made us dream and the setbacks that made us dream even more. It includes three songs which is about all the nights that we played, drunk ourselves and lived for and with the music. In the dimmed light of the Stockholm clubs, or in the bright sunshine of the late summer festivals. Seven individuals collected feelings expressed in words and music by Tom Lagerman. With synthesizers, mandolins, disco pianos, high-string guitars, double drums and beautiful harmonies, we give you Beginners Luck.”
It’s been quite some time since I heard a Quickie Mart remix! New Orleanian DJ/producer Quickie Mart presents the official, Gibbs-approved remix of “National Anthem”. Quickie Mart’s three-volume Haze Diaries mixtape series with NY rapper Gotham Green features Gibbs as well as Planet Asia, El Prez, Sum, IamOmni and more. His Gypsyphonic Disko mixtape features Chali 2na, Juvenile and Gift Of Gab and blends New Orleans bounce, klezmer, hip hop and Balkan music. It’s amazing to me to hear how great Gibbs sounds blended in with all these different type of genres.

Jonathan Maxwell III did a great job on the production of this track, lord knows I’m a sucker for anything jazz inspired. J.Nolan is an up and comer which I’ve taken a particular interest in, he hasn’t disappointed me yet and continues to push music out that exhibits his drive and passion for his craft. Loose Files drops on February 22nd.

Am I the only one who thinks Wayne was completely not necessary on this remix? Stop hopping on things you have no business hopping on Lil Wayne! Yes, I’m talking about the Black & Yellow beat, just when I think radio will take a hint and stop playing that damn song, you go ahead and remix it and start my hell all over again. No thank you very much!
This 22 year old singer manages to take an already beautiful Joni Mitchell song and actually make me tear up. Maybe because it’s close to Valentine’s Day and I’m slightly emotional but, his version actually moved me. So amazing.
Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
And I said, constantly in the darkness
Where’s that at?
If you want me I’ll be in the bar
On the back of a carton coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
Oh Canada
With your face sketched on it twice
Oh you’re in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh I would still be on my feet… rest of the lyrics after the jump.

I seen a baby cry then seconds later she laughed, the beauty of life, the pain never lasts
