J.Ferb – Chase The Dreams Not The Competition

First let me just state that the cover art is dope, that alone says something. Jamal “J.Ferb” Ferby hails from Memphis, Tennessee who I just happened to come across browsing the streets of the internet and boy am I glad I did. Why haven’t I heard about this kid before? He’s super talented, like for serious. If you download anything off this website tonight, download this mixtape, I promise you will not be disappointed. A refreshing sound, J.Ferb’s officially got support from this blog.

“There are many things I could say, but I prefer to let the imagery in the artwork and music speaks for itself. run 2 the S U N was a prelude, |Chase the Dreams, Not the Competition| is the feature presentation. This project is 21 years in the making, chronicles of a journey that never seems to end… the pursuit of greatness. Here’s my leap… to infinite and beyond is the only goal.”

Charice – “Pyramid” featuring Iyaz

Um, late pass like a mug. Man this is what happens when I don’t pay attention to my 11 year old sister. I miss gems like Charice. I’ll admit I just went and downloaded every song I could find from her. This reminds me of the time I discovered JoJo. I’m hooked and thank you Iyaz for adding some island flavor. Appreciatecha.

Reflection Eternal – This Is Hip Hop

Oh this is quite dope indeed. Court Dunn is really one of the most overlooked directors in hip hop in my opinion. This kid has talent. ThisIs50.com and Director Court Dunn present the sixth installment of the THISISHIPHOP video series featuring Reflection Eternal. Theme music produced by Reality. Revolutions Per Minute drops on 5/18.

“it’s the only voice the young people have, it’s the only voice the poor people have..it’s the only voice the oppressed have.”

Mansions On The Moon – Space To Breathe (Snippet)

Mansions On The Moon is my latest find that I’m slightly obsessed with. Their a trio from Virginia that brings us the type of music you can’t quite define. The type of music that’s just good. The latest visual above is a snippet for their new song, “Space to Breathe” which was filmed by Shomi Patwary of Illusive Media. In this clip are images of the band making magic in the studio. Get Familiar:

The origins of Mansions on the Moon have been kind of a mystery with the sudden rise of their fan base within the blogosphere. Ben Hazlegrove (Producer / Keyboard / Vocals) and Lane Shaw (Drummer) are members from the group Pnuma Trio. They just finished their farewell tour last month and went straight to the studio with Ted Wendler (Lead Vocals, Guitar) to go fulltime with Mansions on the Moon.
Influential producers Dj Benzi and Diplo heard their sound and instantly decided to work on the soon to be released mixtape which is expected to feature remixes and collaborations from Chiddy Bang and Chuck Inglish from The Cool Kids. When their manager, N*E*R*D’s Shae Haley, presented their demo to Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo who became instant fans of the sound and have taken interest in possibly executive producing the debut album.

Chiddy Bang on Last Call with Carson Daly

“Hip Hop is like everywhere, it’s the folk music of our generation. It’s what everyone’s cooking up in their basements.” Yep, sounds about right. This duo hails from Pennsylvania specifically Drexel University. Kids see where this trend is going? Stay in school, Mike Posner did it – J.Cole did it – Chiddy Bang’s doing it. Get that degree. Get to know Chiddy Bang, their music is a mixture of everything amazing. I absolutely love them. Already hitting it big in the UK it’s only a matter of time before the Chiddy Bang phenomenon takes over our ears and hearts too.

Roc Raida Birthday Celebration

Man, when I heard Roc Raida passed away in September it was a really sad day for me. May 18th celebrates his 38th birthday and to commemorate that day Brooklyn Bowl will be hosting an amazing line-up of festivities featuring A-Trak, DJ Clark Kent, DJ Enuff, Lord Finesse and more who will be paying tribute to the life of the Grand Master.

The Swim Fans – “The [Adult Swim] EP”

Okay DOPE download of the day – DOPE download of the DAY! For those of you who are Adult Swim fanatics like I am – this is a very nice little present in the form of 9 tracks electronically delivered to you from me.

The Swim Fans (styled as THE SWIM FANS) is a musical collaboration between producer & arranger brandon* and Boston lyricist Lexx Black. Their album “The [Adult Swim] EP” marks the first of an unknown amount of albums they will release periodically through the years.

Finding much inspiration in Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, Lexx Black skillfully uses his rhymes to match the tone of brandon*’s beats. But even with so much emphasis on Adult Swim, The Swim Fans let it be known that the songs are a celebration of all things anime.

So sit back, relax and enjoy as The Swim Fans bring you volume 1 of the [Adult Swim] EP.

Marky – Run On

Late pass on this gem that dropped while I was taking care of some matters in Texas over the weekend. I support Mr. Deffy in anything he does because he is just THAT dope of an artist to me. MadMan assists on the track as Marky samples Johnny Cash’s version of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down.” Sidebar: Johnny Cash is one of the best to ever do it – ever done it – ever will do it so props to Marky for sampling one of the greats. “Run On” is from Marky’s upcoming tape – Journey to Markyland: Rest Stop 2 which drops on May 13th.
